about

The Lever and Rail is comprised of veteran road dog Trevor Garrod and L.A. based songstress Lael Neale. These two habitually homeless singers have been crossing paths and untying tunes for years. With his experience matching her prodigal vitality, they float somewhere between folk and rocks and feathers. The haunting combination of their voices conjure forlorn yearnings of a past that never was and a future found at the song’s end.

Influences:
Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Steinbeck, Harold and Maude

Track Name: Weatherman
Weatherman, weatherman
I've been bad
I danced for the rain to end

Getting by, getting by
I'm shameless
I'll take the rain and run

Thought of you
Because its June
You love the lightning too

I wish we were new

Scarecrow, Scarecrow
I do regret
The empty chest I left you with

Farm house, roof bows
Listing in the wind
I heard a leaf touch tin

Listened for your boots
On this wet cracked June
Electric light killed the fireflies

I wish I could cry

I don't know, I don't know
Don't know why

I don't know, I don't know
Don't know why

The truth hurts more than a lie

Weatherman, weatherman
I've been bad
I danced for the rain to end

I don't know, I don't know
Don't know why

I don't know, I don't know
Don't know why
Track Name: The Love I Hate
It’s just like I told you
Somewhere down the line
Set up for the knock down
I’m leaving you behind

Haunted by your spirit
I was walkin’ awake for days
But no hand full of rattle snakes
Could keep your face at bay

And I need a shot
Only one more dose
You’re the only love I hate
You’re the only friend I’ve got

We played by the riverside
I slipped too far below
For the rock slide of your smile
It hit the fatal blow

So wish me well on my way
With a suit case of cement
On the river where we once played
And leave me there for dead

And I need a shot
Only one more dose
You’re the only love I hate
You’re the only friend I’ve got

I thought I want to write you
Out of my last act
I cannot leave you
Like it was a scripted fact

Cause I thought I’d see the lines
Soften your sweet laugh
And you would be my crows feet
And I’d be your cataract

And I need a shot
Only one more dose
You’re the only love I hate
You’re the only friend I’ve got
Track Name: High Class Problem
Lilly's on the mountain
She's not coming down
She's so full of herself
I gotta get her our some how

I brought her records
A bunch of seedless grapes
Some matches for her candles
A lantern just in case

She lit my hair on fire
Crushed the grapes into fine wine
She broke every record
Put the needle in my eye

I swear she's the queen of the guillotine
I am just another man laying out his neck

I've got a high, high class kind of problem
That's the only kind of woman for me

Out in the cafes
The boys have lost their heads
All that's left are skinny jeans
Cynicism and cigarettes

Lord, they never realize
As they bend to kiss her rings
She's got all our lives
Hanging from a string

I swear she's the queen of the guillotine
And I am just another man laying out his neck

I've got a high, high class kind of problem
That's the only kind of woman for me

Lilly killed me dead last night
As she came down from her thrown
I didn't even try to fight
I let her take me home

I swear, she's the queen of the guillotine
And I am just another man laying out his neck

I've got a high, high class kind of problem
That's the only kind of woman for me

Honey, I would die for you
Die for you and more

Honey, I would die for you
Die for you and more

Honey, I would die for you
Die for you and and more
Track Name: I Might Break My Heart
L.A.
I got no one else to blame
Help me
Find out how to change
To reach myself
By losing my way

Austin
There’s a cost of living loose
We miss out
On the one’s we don’t choose

I’ve got nothing
I can hold onto
There are too many ways
To get to you

Montreal
It don’t take much to fall
Teach me to slip
Without losing it all

I’ve got nothing
I can hold on to
There are too many ways
To get to you

I’m gonna take
I’m gonna take
I’m gonna take them all

I might break
I might break
I might break my heart

I might break
I might break
I might break my heart

I might break
I might break
I might break my heart
Track Name: Celebrity
I make
I make poor choices
I’ll divorce this angel from my neck
You are a drug
A side effect

I break
I break rocks
Along your bed
You got a job, a wife
I’ll never wed

I’M LONELY AS A CELEBRITY
I’m so disconnected that I can’t feel
And I don’t feel like checking in today
No, I don’t feel like checking in today

And I fake
I fake excitement
For the world that we could change
But I don’t want to change today

I’m paranoid
I’m just a toy
Another spoil
from the war you won
You’re all talk
I am no fun

I’M LONELY AS A CELEBRITY
I’m so disconnected, I can’t feel
And I don’t feel like checking in today
No, I don’t feel like checking in today

And I’m breathless
I’m desperate
for you to leave,
just let me be
Or keep me company

CAUSE I’M LONELY AS A CELEBRITY
And I’m so disconnected that I can’t feel
And I don’t feel like checking in today
No, I don’t feel like checking in today
No, I don’t feel like checking in today

Track Name: Already Gone
Stalled out
In my pick up truck
Grove box full of seeds
Little yellow packets
From a garden that never grew
But the rye grass grows
Through the ripped leather seats

They're already gone

Laid down
Like a carpet stain
No one wants to clean
Reminds me of a party
The night that we abstained
We did but we didn't
In the end its all the same

They're already gone

Set up
Laundry lines
You can hang your sheets in the sun
Cloths pin springs
Mouse traps in the barn
I caught a little lie
And I hung it out to dry

They're already gone

So close
Yet a million miles
I drew a line
Down your leg
Black ink stars and flowers
From a ball point pen
They'll wash out tomorrow
But tonight let's fill them in

They're already gone

Lit out
For the great defeat
Only skipping stones
